ARTIST STATEMENT
When making art, I’m most interested in tapping into that akashic space of existence where the physical and spiritual worlds meet. My art explores the merging of inner and outer worlds, the interplay and interconnection of what is seen and unseen. My intention is to express what’s hidden beyond the forms – the spirit of things.
My process is intuitive - waiting, feeling, asking, and listening for what wants to happen and unfold. Pairing materials and elements together is more than an aesthetic choice. I’m always noticing the deeper meanings and symbolic layers inherent in everything.
Attracted to time worn objects, I gather things on my walks along roads and in forests, and from salvage, antique and flea markets. Nature, architecture, and the yogic arts and sciences provide endless inspiration.
I invite you to see my art as visual invocations, similar in the way a sacred song or prayer calls to the transcendent.
BIO
Laura Trisiano makes mixed media and found object sculptural wall art, freestanding sculpture, and paintings inspired by nature, architecture, and the yogic arts and sciences. Her art explores the merging of inner and outer worlds and the interplay and interconnection of what is seen and unseen.
She has worked in fiber arts for over 30 years, combining hand painted and hand dyed fabrics with mixed media and found objects of rare, antique, vintage and contemporary origin. Similar to her current body of work, an entire series was often inspired by the tiniest of treasures - a luminous freshwater pearl, an ancient Mayan clay bead, a sea- worn piece of coral.
Her work has been represented by galleries, museum shops, home furnishing stores, and upscale boutiques, including Bergdorf Goodman and Henri Bendel in New York City, and is in private collections nationwide. Chosen among 6000 entries from over 30 countries, her fiber art has been featured in Fiberarts Design Book 7, as well as DesignNJ, Fiberarts, and Romantic Homes magazines.
She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (1982) in sculpture and ceramics from Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, she has lived and worked in New Jersey since 1965.
